BOARDING
The College has excellent on-site boarding facilities where students
may be accommodated on a full or weekly basis. Students may board from
ten years of age. Accommodation is provided in both shared and
individual rooms, many of which have en-suite facilities. Younger
students usually share rooms with one or more other children. As older
students progress up though the school, their study bedroom
accommodation becomes more individual.
Boarding offers the opportunity for pupils to develop both
independence and social skills in a stable and caring environment. It
enables students to make new friendships and to learn to live in a
structured community. Daily prep times are supervised, with help
always available. Boarding can be very enjoyable and can make a
genuine contribution in preparing students for success at university.
THE COLLEGE DAY
For day students, College hours are from 9.00 a.m. to 12.40 p.m. and
from 1.25 p.m. to 3.45 p.m. on five days a week. Lunches are available
in the College Dining Room, or students may bring with them a packed
lunch. Those living near the College may go home for lunch. Sixth form
students may go out for lunch. Light refreshments may be purchased
from the College Tuck Shop during morning break.
MULTI-CULTURAL ARRANGEMENTS
The College is proud of its tradition of multicultural education.
There have been overseas students in attendance since before 1960.
Special arrangements for additional tuition in spoken and written
English are available – either on an initial only basis, or as a
regular adjunct to the normal curriculum. Great efforts are made to
adjust each student’s education to best suit the individual’s needs.
During the past few years, there have been students in attendance who
have originated from Africa, America, China, Korea, New Zealand,
Poland, Russia, the Middle East, Thailand and almost every country in
Europe. Additionally, at the very end of the Summer Term, (after most
of the examination students have departed), the College often
accommodates a group of European students who wish to visit England
for a Language Study-Holiday. Such visits are eagerly awaited by those
wishing to practice their languages! |
